- A clear gel is applied to the area of the body being examined.
- A doctor, nurse or technician uses a hand-held device called a transducer to send out the ultrasound signals.
Ultrasounds Can Be Used on Many Different Organs
Ultrasounds are often associated with heart-warming images of fetuses wiggling inside their Mom's uterus. But they are not limited to obstetrical purposes.
- Main Street Radiology provides ultrasound services in New York City. We utilize advanced ultrasound technology to capture moving images of many different body parts in order to diagnose potential problems.
- Sonograms can be performed on the abdomen, liver, gallbladder, kidneys, prostate, breast, brain, heart, and other body parts. We now offer diagnostic Sonohysterograms and Echocardiograms.
The Sonography Procedure
How Does It Work?
- Sonograms are safe and easy. Patients are comfortably positioned on an exam table, and a clear gel is applied to the area of the body being examined. (The gel makes it easier for the high-frequency sound waves to pass through the skin, resulting in a clearer image.)
- A doctor, nurse or technician uses a hand-held device called a transducer to send out the ultrasound signals, which then bounce back and are recorded. The result is an image that's displayed on a high-definition computer monitor and can easily be reviewed by a medical professional.
- Generally, an ultrasound will take 15 to 30 minutes. Patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately following the exam.
